Midland Lhasa Apso Association - Championship
Show, 13th April 2025
Judge - Glenys Dolphin - Bitch Classes
It was a great honour
to be invited to judge the MLAA’s 40th
championship show – it was made even more
special judging alongside Joan Scarll; together
we have served this Association for many years -
Joan as secretary (for more than 20 years), and
myself as committee, chair and now president.
The officers and committee had made a great
effort to make the show memorable –
both for us
and the exhibitors – thank you; thanks also to
my two efficient stewards. I am pleased to say
that Joan and I agreed on all the top awards, so
there was no need to call in the referee.
Obviously, with smaller entries these days, and
the entry being split between two judges (Joan
with the dogs, and me with the bitches), the
classes were not as well filled as they were
even 10 years ago; however, despite this, I was
pleased with my main winners, who I am glad to
say fitted the Standard. Mouths on the whole
were good – but some lacked enough underjaw
which is essential to the typical Tibetan
expression we should all aim for. I was pleased
to find some well laid shoulders this time, and
some sound, well-balanced, typy exhibits. Going
forward I feel breeders need to watch size and
construction, and try to breed more typical
heads with moderately narrow skulls and good
underjaws (not just good bites). Movement was
generally sound but I found only a few who
exhibited the ‘asked for’ typical jaunty
movement which is one of the breed’s defining
features (sadly, this trait has been a rarity
for some years now, but I hope this important
breed point will not be lost forever).
MPB: (7,2a): 1 Hazelhurst’s Mytilene Magical

Filenjar Wicked Dreams, nearly 9 months gold,
another with good typical outline, liked size
and shape, well-constructed frame with good neck
and shoulders, level topline, attractive head

me, is a typical Lhasa Apso, lovely size and
balance, feminine all through and with sound
sturdy frame, sweet head and expression, dark
eyes, nicely arched neck well set on, level
topline, sound jaunty mover, correct coat
texture, just had to give way to ‘youth’ today;
3 Sutcliffe’s Newcliffe Luisa-Lace.
SBB (1): 1 Parvataneni’s Domensa Perfect Dream,
mature looking gold, correct head proportions,
good mouth, balanced frame but could be shorter
coupled, well-muscled, holds a level topline,
